Dr. Neeraj “Nick” Satyal, “the Math Guy”
Dr. Neeraj (Nick) Satyal has been a dedicated educator for over 15 years. He began his teaching career in Alaska, where he earned his MA in Teaching from the University of Alaska-Anchorage. As a National Board Certified Teacher and former Teacher of the Year, Nick's extensive experience spans from first-grade math to calculus.
In 2014, he received his PhD from Loyola Marymount University, focusing his dissertation on the impact of fifth-grade teaching on eighth-grade math achievement. Throughout his career, Dr. Satyal has held roles as a network math coach, assistant principal, and school leader, providing invaluable support in transforming math departments both qualitatively and quantitatively.
Dr. Satyal firmly believes that math education is a social justice issue, essential for full participation in a democracy. His commitment to equity and anti-racist mathematics is evident through his proven track record of improving student achievement.
Beyond the classroom, Dr. Satyal's background as a Division III college baseball player informs his approach to coaching adult learners, emphasizing "the mental game." He continues to play baseball competitively and enjoys spending time with his wife and newborn.
